Jade Starling

Jade Starling (born January 19, 1967)[1] is an American singer/songwriter, and the lead vocalist for 1980s band Pretty Poison. Born in New York City, NY, she moved to Philadelphia, PA and currently lives in New Jersey. Starling is a gay-rights activist and an avid supporter of same-sex marriage.[2] She also speaks phonetic Spanish and often records songs in both Spanish and English.[3]

Philanthropy

Jade Starling has worked very much as a gay-rights activist, performing on behalf of many gay-rights benefits including gay-rights parades and GLBT benefits. She also wrote a song along with Whey Cooler called “Blue Monday” to raise money for the Hurricane victims, which Brook Lapping Productions found, and licensed for their film “Saving Katrina” which aired on 8-27-06, the first anniversary of the hurricane, on the Discovery Channel.[2]

Musical career

Pretty Poison

As lead singer of the band Pretty Poison, she saw her hit song “Catch Me (I’m Falling)” become a top ten hit.[4] They rerecorded the song on 1998 album “Euphoria” and it climbed to #43. Later their only other hit to make the charts, “Nighttime” came out again (after reaching number 14 on Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1984, being their first charting song) and reached #36.[5] They later performed under the name of “Sex In Violets” for the album “Deflowered”. In February 2009, a new song was released called Finga Lickin’ Good (FLG), it didn’t chart but was released on iTunes. Jade later broke off into a solo career and asked that all tracks with her vocals be credited to “Pretty Poison featuring Jade Starling”.

Songwriting

Jade is a songwriter, along with being a singer and has written many songs. Besides her “Blue Monday” (a song written by Whey Cooler and her as an effort to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims), she has co-written the tenth track (titled “Proper Nice”) on Joss Stone’s album "Introducing Joss Stone" in 2007.[2]

Honors

Along with reaching #1, #14, #43 and #37 on assorted charts, Starling’s band Pretty Poison has received multiple honors. Their biggest hit, “Catch Me I’m Falling” (#1 on dance charts, #8 on Billboard Hot 100) has been featured in many movies, "Kickin It Old School", "Bam Bam & Celeste", "10th & Wolf", “Lord Of The Fans”, “Hiding Out”,[2] and most recently "Don’t Mess With The Zohan" starring Adam Sandler.
